Die Unmöglichkeit, Fakt von Fiktion zu unterscheiden
10 Kameras, 1 Drohne, 6 Tänzerinnen, 4 Performer, 2 Kamerafrauen, 3 Kameramänner, 1 Statistin, 1 Assistentin und 1 Choreografin bilden das Team von too many heroes, einer Tanzfilmproduktion von Andrea K. Schlehwein + NETZWERK AKS, die in diesem Jahr eine der begehrten Sonderförderungen des BMKOES aus der Reihe Neustart Kultur #1 Von der Bühne zum Video erhielt.
Es geht um die Macht dokumentarischer Bilder, die immer schwerer zu treffende Unterscheidung zwischen Fake und Facts, wie die klare Zuordnung von Aktionen und ihren Auslösern und die Frage nach der Verhältnismäßigkeit von Wut, Revolte und deren oftmals nicht mehr nachvollziehbaren Beweggründen.
Bilder, wie wir sie tagtäglich in den Medien sehen. Wutbürger, die nicht wissen, wohin mit ihrer Energie, gehetzte, verunsicherte Menschen, die vor ebenso realer wie irrealer Bedrohung fliehen, sich in Krise, Chaos und Aufruhr erschöpfen.
Das Konzept entstand aus dem Bedürfnis, Aufmerksamkeit auf die anhaltenden Missstände in Myanmar zu richten, wo die ständige Verletzung der Menschenrechte durch die Junta seit der Machtübernahme des Militärs am 1. Februar 2021 zur traurigen Realität geworden ist.
Myanmar ist als Synonym zu betrachten, wir könnten auch Belarus sagen, China, Syrien, Mali ; Russland oder Afghanistan (Aufzählung ist endlos fortzusetzen), wo Menschen unter realen Diktaturen und Menschenrechtsverletzungen leiden und ihren mutigen Einsatz für Demokratie oftmals mit Folter und dem eigenen Leben bezahlen.
too many heroes zielt in keinem Fall darauf ab, eine spezifische Realität abzubilden. Untersucht wurde die Beziehung von Körper und urbanem Außenraum, von Verletzlichkeit auf Asphalt. Eskalierende Konflikte wechseln ab mit unvermittelten Momenten der Empathie. Zu sehen ist, wie sich die individuelle Perspektive dynamischer, schwer fassbarer Interaktionsprozesse im filmischen Niemandsland eines großen Ganzen verliert.

The Impossibility of Distinguishing Fact from Fiction
10 cameras, 1 drone, 6 dancers, 4 performers, 2 camerawomen, 3 cameramen, 1 extra, 1 assistant and 1 choreographer make up the team of too many heroes, a dance film production by Andrea K. Schlehwein + NETZWERK AKS, which has received one the coveted special grants from the Austrian BMKOES as part of the series Neustart Kultur # 1 Von der Bühne zum Video this year.
The production deals with the power of documentary images, the increasingly difficult distinction between fake and fact, and questions about the correlation of actions and their triggers, the appropriateness of anger, revolt and their often no longer comprehensible motives.
Images that we see in the media every day. Angry citizens who don't know what to do with their energy, stressed, unsettled people who flee from real and unreal threats, exhausting themselves in crisis, chaos and turmoil.
The concept was triggered by a need to draw attention to the ongoing injustice in Myanmar, where the constant violation of human rights by the junta has become a sad reality since the military seized power on Feb. 1, 2021.
Myanmar stands as a synonym, we could also speak of Belarus, China, Syria, Mali; Russia or Afghanistan (the list goes on and on), where people suffer from real dictatorships and human rights violations and often pay with torture or their own lives for their courageous commitment to democracy.
too many heroes never aims to depict a specific reality. It's an examination of the relationship between the body and the external urban space, of vulnerability on asphalt. Escalating conflicts alternate with sudden moments of empathy. It shows how the individual perspective of elusive, dynamic processes of interaction loses itself in the cinematic no man's land of a larger whole.
