„Wir betrachten den Körper als geologische Landschaft: eine lebende Architektur, in der die Knochen ein stilles, tiefes und dynamisches Tragesystem bilden. Aus dieser Perspektive heraus bieten wir eine Bewegungspraxis an, die die Teilnehmenden dazu einlädt, mit dieser Grundstruktur in Verbindung zu treten und den Körper als feinsinnigen, beweglichen und relationalen Raum zu erfahren.
Die Begegnungen bieten Raum für Körpererkundung und Improvisation. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem Skelettsystem und dem Bindegewebe sowie deren Verhältnis zur Schwerkraft. Durch geführte Bewegungssequenzen, anatomische Impulse und Raumerkundung entwickeln die Teilnehmenden Präsenz, Körperwahrnehmung und Leichtigkeit. Dabei werden alltägliche Spannungen gelöst, Bewegungsmuster verändern sich und neue Bewegungsmöglichkeiten entstehen.“

From this perspective, we offer a movement practice that invites participants to reconnect with this essential structure, rediscovering the body as a sensitive, mobile, and relational space.
The encounters unfold as a process of exploration and improvisation, focusing on the skeletal system, connective tissues, and their relationship to gravity. Through guided movement sequences, anatomical imagery, and spatial explorations, participants cultivate awareness, presence, and ease, releasing habitual tensions, reorganizing movement patterns, and expanding their range of possibilities."

The Great Misery: Rituals on Stage for a Shared Mercy presents a performance-installation that combines body, sound, and visual media to explore poetically the relationship between misery and compassion in an interconnected world. light things + dark things ³ ist ein Tanzpoem im Setting einer Ausstellung, in der die beiden Protagonistinnen – Jye Hwei Lin und Emanuele Piras – in einer Inszenierung von Andrea K. Schlehwein in zehn Rauminstallationen unzählige emotionale Räume und narrative Fragmente kreieren.

Über die Dauer von 60 Minuten vollziehen die beiden Tänzer:innen permanente Orts-, Aktions-, Licht- und Perspektivwechsel und schaffen so ein ebenso ruhiges wie wildes Geschehen, das nach und nach Stifts- und Betsaal erfasst, und dem sich die Betrachterin, weil mittendrin, nicht mehr entziehen kann. De:installation und ein nicht mehr ordnen bares Chaos stehen als Sinnbild für den Zerfall unserer gewohnten Lebenswelt.

light things + dark things ³ is a dance poem set within an exhibition, in which the two protagonists—Jye Hwei Lin and Emanuele Piavi—create countless emotional spaces and narrative fragments across ten room installations in a production directed by Andrea K. Schlehwein.

Over the course of 60 minutes, the two dancers undergo constant shifts in location, action, lighting, and perspective, thereby creating an event that is as serene as it is wild—one that gradually engulfs the Stifts- and Betsaal, and from which the audience finding herself right in the midst of it all, can no longer escape. “De:installation” and a chaos that can no longer be organized stand as a symbol of the disintegration of our familiar world.

Throwback – ALICE by Petra Peček + NETZWERK AKS

ALICE von Petra Peček + NETZWERK AKS wurde im Juni dieses Jahres im ART SPACE stift millstatt erfolgreich uraufgeführt. Eine weitere Vorstellung findet am 12. September 2026 im Theater Španski borci in Ljubljana statt.

ALICE by Petra Peček + NETZWERK AKS premiered successfully in June this year at ART SPACE stift millstatt. Another performance will take place on 12 September 2026 at Španski borci theatre in Ljubljana.

ALICE ist ein zeitgenössisches Tanzstück, das seine Inspiration aus Alices Reise durch den Kaninchenbau ins Wunderland zieht. Dabei fungiert das Wunderland nicht als Gegenwelt zur Realität, sondern als Raum, der von den Darstellerinnen selbst und ihren gemeinsamen beruflichen Bedingungen geprägt ist: ein ständiger Spagat zwischen künstlerischer Freiheit, körperlichen Anforderungen, der Suche nach Sinn und der Beharrlichkeit, die nötig ist, um durchzuhalten.

Über eine auf der Bühne platzierte Kinderrutsche begeben sich die vier Tänzerinnen in diesen Raum – ihren metaphorischen Kaninchenbau. In nummerierten Sporttrikots, die an Wettkämpfe erinnern, oder an Westen aus Auditions, bei denen Tänzer*innen beobachtet und bewertet werden, tragen sie die Zuschreibungen und Regeln der Welt, aus der sie kommen, mit sich. In einer anderen Welt könnten diese Zuschreibungen ihre Bedeutung verlieren oder gänzlich überflüssig werden.

Auf ihrer Reise durch physische und innere Landschaften geraten die Tänzerinnen in eine Endlosschleife, aus der es kein Entrinnen gibt. Wie auch bei unseren eigenen Gewohnheiten, Erinnerungen und Verhaltensmustern erweist es sich als schwierig, diesen Raum zwischen Flucht und Rückkehr hinter sich zu lassen. Auf der Suche nach Authentizität und neuen Möglichkeiten bleiben sie dem bereits Bekannten verhaftet und fallen immer wieder auf das zurück, was sich vertraut anfühlt.

Die Rutsche wird zum Symbol dieser fortwährenden Bewegung: oben stehen, ins Unbekannte rutschen und sich ganz unten wiederfinden – bereit, von Neuem zu beginnen. Dieser Kreislauf speist sich nicht länger aus der Erwartung einer letztendlichen Verwandlung, sondern aus der Antizipation selbst – der flüchtigen, freudigen Spannung und der unvermeidlichen Rückkehr auf vertrauten Boden.

ALICE lebt zwischen Hoffnung und Gewohnheit, zwischen dem Wunsch nach Flucht und dem Verlangen nach Zugehörigkeit.

ENGLISH

ALICE is a contemporary dance performance inspired by Alice’s journey down the rabbit hole into Wonderland. Rather than imagining Wonderland as the opposite of reality, the performance proposes it as a space shaped by the performers themselves and by the shared conditions of their profession: a continuous negotiation between artistic freedom, physical demands, the search for meaning, and the persistence required to keep going.

Four dancers enter this landscape through a children's slide placed on stage - their metaphorical rabbit hole. Dressed in numbered sports jerseys, similar to those worn during competitions and to the vests worn at auditions where dancers are observed and evaluated, they carry with them the labels and rules of the world they come from. In another reality, these labels might lose their meaning or even become unnecessary.

As the performers navigate shifting physical and inner landscapes, they find themselves in an ongoing loop, unable to escape. Like our own habits, memories, and patterns, the space between escape and return proves difficult to leave behind. In the search for authenticity and new possibilities, they remain connected to what they already know and constantly fall back into what feels familiar.

The slide becomes a symbol of this continuous journey: standing at the top, sliding into the unknown, and finding oneself back at the bottom, ready to begin again. The cycle is no longer driven by the expectation of a final transformation, but by anticipation itself - the fleeting excitement of suspense and the inevitable return to familiar ground.

ALICE lives between hope and habit, between the desire to escape and the pull of belonging.

shifting terrain zeigt choreografierte, konstruierte Situationen – keine abgeschlossene Produktion, sondern ein offenes System. Erfahrbar wird eine Art Toolbox: ein Set an Möglichkeiten, das sich je nach Vereinbarung oder Kontext adaptieren, weiterentwickeln, öffnen oder verdichten lässt. Im Zentrum stehen plötzliche, unvermittelte Einbrüche in ein choreografisches Geschehen, die physische Erfahrung von Schwerkraft im abrupten Fallen sowie die Dezentralisierung von Impulszentren und deren Auswirkungen auf den Körper.

shifting terrain presents choreographed, constructed situations—not a finished production, but an open system. What emerges is a kind of toolbox: a set of possibilities that can be adapted, developed further, expanded, or condensed depending on the agreement or context. At its center are sudden, unmediated intrusions into a choreographic event, the physical experience of gravity in an abrupt fall, and the decentralization of centers of impulse and their effects on the body.

2026 – Was passiert, wenn die Systeme, denen wir vertrauen, versagen, das Richtige zu tun? Gerechtigkeit, Gleichheit, Menschenrechte. Zerstört und nicht mehr zu reparieren.

Die Frage nach dem Wie weiter? und dem Wie kann all dies geschehen? wird durch einen einzigen Prozess, nämlich den der schleichenden Akzeptanz dessen, was aktuell geschieht, geprägt.

Ob Veränderung mit Mitteln der Kunst gelingt, bleibt die Frage.

Was Sie in diesem Jahr erwartet, ist ein Programm, nah am Puls dieser Zeit, das den Zerfall, Dissens und Diskurs, die Brüchigkeit wie auch den Respekt füreinander, die dem Tanz innewohnende Dynamik und Freude, sowie die Suche nach einer zeitgemäßen Ästhetik beinhaltet. Wir erarbeiten unter anderem vier spannende Neuproduktionen in gewohnt internationalen Teams. Und zukünftig wird konsequent der Name der verantwortlichen Choreografin dem Label + NETZWERK AKS vorangestellt.

Außerdem bieten Mitglieder des NETZWERK AKS auch in diesem Jahr wieder Workshops und Tanztrainings für Profis wie Tanzbegeisterte an – im ART SPACE stift millstatt sowie andernorts.

Wir freuen uns auf Sie und auf euch alle. Bleiben Sie uns gewogen und bleiben wir misstrauisch, stellen Fragen und zeigen Haltung.

2026 – What happens when the systems we trust fail to do what is right? Justice, Equality, Human Rights. Shattered beyond repair.

The questions What's next? and How can all this be happening? are shaped by one process: the creeping acceptance of what is currently unfolding.

Whether we can achieve change through the means of art remains the question.

What you can expect this year is a program in tune with the times, exploring disintegration, dissent and discourse, fragility and fragmentation; but also respect for one another, the inherent dynamism and joy of dance, and the search for a contemporary aesthetic. Among other things, we are developing four exciting new production, as always with international teams. And moving forward, the name of the responsible choreographer will consistently precede the label + NETZWERK AKS.

In addition to the new productions, members of NETZWERK AKS once again offer workshops and dance trainings this year for both professionals and enthusiasts – at ART SPACE stift millstatt and beyond.

The Space Between I & We

Art Space Stift Millstatt: In "solo project(s)", curated by Andrea K. Schlehwein for the season finale, three young dancers and choreographers investigate the charged space between I and We

Andrea K. Schlehwein and her highly acclaimed artists' collective, NETZWERK AKS, stand for contemporary dance of international distinction. Since 2008, the Art Space at Millstatt Abbey has served as a temporary base where, under Schlehwein's dedicated direction, "each year, two to three full length dance productions alongside smaller formats are developed that mostly premiere in Millstatt before being presented at international festivals and renowned art venues worldwide."
Needless to say, the renowned dancer and choreographer also brings both emerging talents and established names to Millstatt for guest performances and residencies. As part of this year's guest performance series, Schlehwein concludes the season by presenting the outcome of the experimental residency format "solo project(s)" – "three strikingly different solo statements in contemporary dance. Each work pushes beyond the limits of the individual self and opens up spaces for collective experience and fresh perspectives."
This brings us to Valentin Alfery, Anamaria Bagarić, and Petra Peček, whose forms of expression draw on different artistic sources: contemporary dance, hip-hop/urban styles, neoclassical, acting, language, and philosophical debate.
It is therefore a highly resonant space in which the young choreographers' solos "not only negotiate personal states of mind but also revolve around the question of how much individuality a community can handle."
Interested? On 7th of November (from 6 p.m.) the Art Space welcomes you with three solo performances, two intermissions and a concluding artist talk.

Drei Soli – Drei Handschriften

Die drei Soli der jungen europäischen Choreograf:innen Valentin Alfery, Anamaria Bagaric und Petra Peček sind persönliche Reflexionen – jede für sich einzigartig, jede mit eigener tänzerischer Sprache.

Ihre Ausdrucksformen speisen sich aus unterschiedlichen künstlerischen Quellen: zeitgenössischer Tanz, Hip-Hop/Urban Styles, Neoklassik, Schauspiel, Sprache und philosophische Auseinandersetzung. Das Ergebnis ist ein facettenreiches Spektrum, das ebenso vielfältig ist wie die Perspektiven, die es eröffnet.

Gemeinsam ist allen drei Arbeiten ein Ausgangspunkt in der Gegenwart – einer Gegenwart, die sich im ständigen Wandel befindet und selten klare Orientierung bietet. Vor diesem Hintergrund begeben sich die Choreograf:innen auf eine Suche: nach innerem Halt, nach Selbstverortung und nach einer Verbindung, die über das eigene Ich hinausreicht.

Präsentiert werden drei Soli, die nicht nur persönliche Zustände verhandeln, sondern auch Fragen nach gesellschaftlicher Relevanz stellen. Sie laden das Publikum ein, sich auf diese Suche einzulassen – zwischen Körper und Konzept, Emotion und Reflexion, Bewegung und Bedeutung.

Three Soli – Three Artistic Signatures

The three soli by the young European choreographers Valentin Alfery, Anamaria Bagaric, and Petra Peček are personal reflections – each unique, each with its own dance language.

Their forms of expression draw on different artistic sources: contemporary dance, hip-hop/urban styles, neoclassical, acting, language, and philosophical debate. The result is a multifaceted spectrum that is as diverse as the perspectives it opens up.

What all three works have in common is a starting point in the present—a present that is in constant flux and rarely offers clear orientation. Against this backdrop, the choreographers embark on a search: for inner stability, for self-location, and for a connection that extends beyond their own identity.

Presented are three soli that not only negotiate personal states, but also raise questions of social relevance. They invite the audience to participate in this quest – between body and concept, emotion and reflection, movement and signification.

Eine kontinuierlich gewachsene Zusammenarbeit verbindet ihn mit dem internationalen Tanzlabel Andrea K. Schlehwein + NETZWERK AKS. Eine Reihe spannender Shootings zeigt seine beeindruckende fotografische Handschrift: Augusts Tanzfotografien fangen mit unverstelltem Blick die Dynamik, Ausdruckskraft und flüchtige Schönheit des Tanzes ein. Mit seiner Intuition, Erfahrung und handwerklichen Meisterschaft gelingt es ihm immer wieder, das Ephemere des Tanzes in bleibende, berührende Bildmomente zu übersetzen.

Gemeinsam mit Tatjana August leitet er die Emporium Galerie August, die in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft zum ART SPACE stift millstatt liegt – der Homebase des Tanzkollektivs sowie der Galerie schäfer + schlehwein in Kärnten / Österreich.

Jens August is a celebrated as well as sensitive fashion and advertising photographer with many years of experience. He works in both digital and analogue formats and brings a trained eye, professional calm and uncompromising dedication to every shoot.

A continuously grown collaboration connects him with the international dance label Andrea K. Schlehwein + NETZWERK AKS. A series of compelling photo shoots showcases his impressive photographic signature: August's dance photographs capture the dynamics, expressiveness, and transient beauty of dance with an unadulterated gaze. Thanks to his intuition, experience, and technical mastery, he repeatedly succeeds in translating the ephemeral nature of dance into lasting, moving visual moments.

Together with Tatjana August he runs Emporium Galerie August, located in immediate vicinity of ART SPACE stift milltatt – home base of the dance collective as well as gallery schäfer + schlehwein in the Austrian region of Carinthia.
